Electrical Appliances: Basic Electrical Training
Course Objective
The purpose of the skills program is to provide learners with a basic understanding as well as application of electrical instruments, power supplies, conductors and cables, transformers, electrical circuits and equipment, connect single phase motors.
Target Audience
The range of typical learners include persons interested in gaining a better understanding of basic electrical instruments and the repair of household appliances.

Pre-requisites
Learners should have acquired the numeracy and literacy competencies of NQF Level 2 in the Further Education and Training (FET) Band, prior to embarking on learning towards this skills program. Basic understanding and exposure to electrical equipment will be an advantage.

Formative assessment: Evidence of performance will be collected continuously as Learners progress and will be considered in the final determination of the learners capabilities.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply health & safety to a work area
- Use and care of handheld electrical test instruments
- Fault find on basic electrical circuits
- Select conductors and cables
- Fit compression gland
- Fit a 16Amp plug top
- Wiring of 16Amp plug top and plug, switch and light circuits
- Basic wiring of power circuit
- Connect single phase motor to power supply
- Test a single phase motor, reconnect and replace
- Wire thermostat control switch
- Repair and replace stove components and rewiring
- Wire Three heat stove switch
- Replace low voltage cable
- Install a lighting system
- Repair electrical household appliances
